Learning to drive in Dublin 7: EDT and your test
New to driving in Ireland? These are the steps, with the official pages for each one.
The steps
- 1
Pass your theory test
You need it before you can apply for your learner permit.
- 2
Get your learner permit
Apply to the NDLS online or at an NDLS centre.
- 3
Do your EDT lessons
12 one-hour lessons with an approved instructor (6 for reduced EDT), each recorded in your logbook.
- 4
Hold your permit for 6 months
On a first learner permit, you need 6 months before the test.
- 5
Apply for your driving test
Join the waiting list on MyRoadSafety. A pre-test lesson in the area helps on the day.
